As the state's capital city, Raleigh offers many historic and educational attractions downtown including the Governor's Mansion and the state Capitol building. Raleigh is also home to major museums, among them the N.C. Museum of History, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, The N.C. Museum of Art and the interactive children's museum Exploris, with its accompanying IMAX theater.

The Historic Glenwood district, with its wine and martini bars, Irish pubs and variety of restaurants, is one of the hottest spots for nightlife in the Triangle. City Market features galleries, restaurants and other attractions.

Students, local residents and others converge on Hillsborough Street near N.C. State University for the eclectic mix of coffee shops, restaurants and more.
